Default Staff asked to 'snoop' for police

I can't believe I read this report on the BBC website this morning BBC NEWS | UK | Staff asked to 'snoop' for police so where does it end, people are now being scrutinized before they've even committed a crime.

I also believe that there are also corrupt doctors, council staff and charity workers - so how can they be put in a position to snoop over everyone else - it's disgusting. And as for informing the police regarding people with Mental Health problems, if we had the correct institutions and help for those people they wouldn't be given the opportunity to commit crimes.

I don't know what you think, but personally, I feel that we are no longer a "Free" nation, our civil liberties are slowly being taken away from us. Next we'll all have those CCTV monitors on every street noting our every move.

    What do you think?

Pah its rediculous, its all getting out of hand. For some reason people want it to be a risk free "safe" society....reality check people, its never gonna happen! No human being is perfect!
We've all grown up (us adults any rate) in a society where theres been crime around and people with mental health problems and stuff, before all this obsession with CRB checks and knowing who is a paedophile and being able to play on the streets, without anyone worrying about what was gonna happen to us, and its not done us any harm! It let us be children, instead of being bubblewrapped or aware that we are able to get an adult into trouble at our will through accusations, real or false. Children are so aware of the laws now that they can use that their advantage and us adults have no power at all.....the children have all the rights, what about the adults? what about the fact that the children are not neccesarily old enough to understand or have the responsibility. let them be children.
Society shouldn't have got to the state where people want to abuse children or that drugs cause neglect and family breakdown!!
As for snooping on people with mental health problems...well 1 in 4 people will have some kind of mental health problem in their life! ranging from depression to addictions to things like schizophrenia. and actually these people usually do more harm to themselves than other people.
Poppycock is what i say to this idea! there wil just be false accusations and more breakdowns, more work for police, so more crime cos theyre doing more paperwork and less arrests for real criminals. The innocent will be targetted and the guilty escape free.
O and what happened to our prisons being full? why arrest more people???

Some really good points there ickle_angel - especially about the prisons being full - It's one big knock on effect and the trouble is they don't think of the consequences of it all.

And I agree with you too on that we should let children be children and not take on too much responsibilty.

Great post thanks for replying :)

i'm sure if anyone half decent and knew right from wrong would report a crime anyway.if the police are short of man power then they should employ more instead of cutting back all the time and give the paper work to white collar workers this would cut imployment rates.cctv ins't all that bad if used correctly. and as for putting kids in responsible positions look what happened in cambodia do we really want that hear. i've not seen the news item in question but leave spying to professionals and as for children give the power back to the adults where it should belong.

if we had a propper justice system we wont need to spy. the police and services are run by ass licking idiots and jobs worths the officers on the ground are only employees in a corupt run system.

why can't the police use the special constables like they pay them for lol, i don't trust all these so called snoops that they are using in shops because you don't know if they are truely honest themselves, if a passer by saw someone doing something that wasn't right they would call the police themselves or tell the staff in the shop anyway themselves.

i know myself if i saw anybody doing something wrong i would report it
so having staff as snoops is really ging to be pointless.
