For and Against dogs been allowed in parks

I think dogs should be allowed in parks as long as their owners are responsible and keep them under control and clean up the mess!! Designated dog walking areas are also a good idea but that shouldn't mean that people don't clean up after their dogs.

I don't know about other areas but in our local newspaper lately we've had lots of reports of dogs attacking other dogs and this would worry me if I went to a park and there were lots of dogs.

I am a dog owner living in a very rural area - dog walking is not a problem. I guess if you live in a large town you have no option but to walk your dog in a park but I personally feel that parks should be dog free zones. Sorry folks!

thank you ladies :) My son isnt fond of dogs due to something in the past , i think there should be dog paths etc and not really be allowed near the kids parks .........

Got to say, well done Cyberbabes for trying to get us chatting about topics. Sadly it's only Firefox and myself who have something to say. There are more members to the site now but nobody wants to contribute their opinions and it all gets a bit soul destroying after a while. i know in germany they have something like a cat litter tray only bigger where the dogs have to do there poops i know dogs cannot help fouling its up to the owners to poop scoop as its not a pretty site to see

I dont think dogs should be allowed in parks or cemetaries, if everyone could be trusted to clear up after there pets then that would be different but sadly they cannot so the only alternative would be to stop dogs in parks. The amount of prosecutions for dog fouling/littering is negligable to the amount of faeces/rubbish on our streets and until that improves then dogs should be banned.

I am a dog owner and i hope a responsible one, i take several poo bags with me when i walk my dog, i cover about three miles a day before work and my route takes me through country side, Cusworth Park (Doncaster) and several streets. Dogs need to be exercised daily and if i see any owner not being responsible i let them know how i feel, if you cannot be responsible don't have a dog.

Now I don't own a dog ... but love the little beasties ... but have also been bitten by one as a child. That incident was my own fault by the way ... a kid just been a kid.
Hmm .. it seems these days that everywhere you look someone is bent on creating laws whether it's to stop smoking in public places .. or stop kiddies playing in parks because of Health & Safety ... or allowing dogs.
Dogs are entitled to their walkies and a park is more pleasant than built-up streets and traffic congested roads. The fault of a badly behaved dog lies with their owner and most dog owners are responsible and take care ... with leads and muzzles if need be .. and poop scoops. It's the minority of careless dog owners who tend to create these horrible incidents that hit the headlines.
