I so agree with you raf. Have you seen a film called "The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas?" It certainly brings home the futility of it all.

"There is a candle in every soul
Some brightly burning, some dark and cold
There is a Spirit who brings a fire
Ignites a candle and makes His home
So Carry your candle, run to the darkness
Seek out the hopeless, confused and torn
Hold out your candle for all to see it
Take your candle, and go light your world"**************************************
i would like to think if i was faced with a situation like those poor victims, that i would be brave and stand for what i believe in no matter what, but the truth is i cannot even IMAGINE how terrifying that would be. i have a heart full of love and respect for all the victims of this senseless violence called the Holocaust. i love you. each and every man woman and child that has suffered. that is all.

Watched this film last month. Many of the elements of the ghastly events were there. The acting, especially, the two boys was brilliant. I found it totally believable and tragic, as the innocence of Bruno and his Mother were portrayed. Devasting end. Not just a story, but reality. It is still on my mind. Easier to follow in English well spoken. Haven't read the book, and can only imagine that the detail enhances the horror.
I'm sorry but I am very tempted to ask your origin. At a certain time in my life I was very tempted to become Jewish, I so admired their closeness, family respect, etc but I could have taken on the religion and that would have been it. Although I have spent my life sympathising for the hatred they suffered I would never have been a true Jew so decided to remain a Christian.
I was given up by my mother at the age of three months and was adopted in to a RAF family withy no christian values or faith. I grew up believing that i could not accept god unless he appeared in front of me and i am sorry to say that is my view to this day, my adopted mother died a few years ago so i decided to search for my blood mother who i found after three months, she lives in America (San Antonio Texas), i also found a sister living in Cambridge which is also my birth place, i am currently living in Doncaster were to my suprise my blood family all lived in the early years and a couple of aunt's and uncle's still do, my interest in the Holocoust stems from my time in Berlin 1986-1991, i also studied Joseph Stalin who sent up to 40 million people to gulags and labor camps betwen 1935-1944 most of them died or where murdered under the orders of Stalin.
My shift is nearly over so i am off to bed soon, just a few things to do before i go home. Bye Bye.
How kind of you to share that with all of us. I'm wondering if they will make a "Who Do You Think You Are?" programme about you! I hope you are in touch with your sister. I can't begin to imagine what it must be like to find blood relatives later on in life but I hope it has all worked out for you.
