Unfolding History (Berlin Wall)

Have you ever been part of or encountered history in the making, during my military career i was posted to RAF Gatow in Berlin, not only was this a great place to be i had no idea what was about to unfold over the next five years, Berlin was full of history, Rudolff Hess was imprisoned in Spandau jail and many east Berliners risked life to escape to the west, many of them die attempting to cross no-mans land and only a few ever made it in the later years.
On the 9th November 1989 the east german goverment announced that east berliners would be allowed to cross the border in to the west and many families seperated since 1961 would be re-united as one again, on the nights that followed celebrations erupted all over Berlin and the wall was slowly demolished and huge pieces of concrete faded in to the night to be kept as momento's and reminders of what used to be.
I feel proud to have served my country during this historic period in German history and will never forget it.
