For those of that recieve working and Child TAx credits, How many of you have been Overpaid, and found yourself in a situation where you have to pay back "Huge" amounts?
On TV you see the adverts to notify them of any changes in your earnings or circumstances, to ensure that your payments are adjusted accordingly.
Sounds good eh, even sounds simple.
However, despite us making various calls and informing them of even the smallest chages, guess who has got walloped with demands for us to repay back money which we can not afford.
The idea of the tax credit system, was to help those families ona low income to start with, so how the hell are families like us, who follow the rules to teh letter T supposed to manage?
I notice in the news that TAx credit overpayments are due to soar.

I know its bad i remember the g/kids mum was over paid by £1000 one year an they demanded it be paid back within two months an that was in october so just before xmas not good but she was told not only to ring them but put it in writing an take photo copy

Sorry to be different and it's not my purpose to upset anyone, but why should people get paid by the state for having children? If they can't afford children, don't have them I say.

totally disagree with you for that comment, you have seem to of forgotten how much tax those children will pay when they begin employment. it's merely an investment by the government for the massive returns they will get back from those same children!Originally Posted by CJ

There's also the fact that not all kids are planned, and it's not the parents choice to be given child tax credit, that's the governments choice. Parents can't help it if the government want to give them child tax credit, and people aren't going to turn it down.

I know what you are saying cj years ago we had family allowance an that was it we had to manage didnt matter how low your income was and if we couldnt afford something then we went with out there was lot more poverty then people dont know the meaning of poverty nowadays

When i had my children, some 37 years ago, there was no such thing as working tax, or family credits.
I pay my taxes like any other person.
The "Government" brought these new benefits systems into force, to help those on a low income ( effectiveley giving back some of the money "WE" have paid in).
Due to mistakes and errors their end, which is well documented all over the internet,( just search and you will see) , they then demand 1000,s of pound to paid back.
This thread is not about whether people should or shouldnt have children, its about the bad way in which the government runs the system that THEY put in place to people on a low income.
And Ninja, i do know the meaning of poverty, believe me, it sucks when you have nothing, and are then told you owe thousands in overpayment, when you have followed all the rules.

Moosey, are you kidding? Investment so they can pay back in tax later??? There are no jobs for these kids, so how are they going to pay back. Young adults are leaving universities and working in McDonalds 'cos that's all they can get. Most kids are leaving school and getting IS or JSA.

Nice to have some extra money thrown at you, but the forms are confusing, and always end up over paying you .. to be honest it causes more financial hassle than helping - but if the government is giving free money away why shouldn't I claim it - there are hundreds on DLA who shouldn't be claiming it, there are hundreds working and not declaring - the whole system is screwed really.
Doesn't bother me either way - I guess I'm old fashioned in that as long as I have a roof over my head for me and mine and food on the table I'm happy - money is over- rated.
Off to work now 2.30 - 11pm - hard shift but I have pride and get enjoyment out of working :)

what i dont understand is when u give them the forms bck the should be able to work it out from there so where did all this over payments come from and its not our mistake if they over pay us its there own it makes me angry thinking about it
