Default A greener environment carrier bags...

I was wondering what people's opion was on carrier bags, you now go into a shop buy alot of gifts for example and get offered just one carrier bag, I was in sommerfield yesterday did a lot of food shopping and got offered just one carrier bag, I dont have a car and have to carry the shopping back, when I asked for 2 more as one was not enough, anyone would off thought I had asked for a thousand pound loan, with the look on the shop assistant's face.

So has anyone else felt this way, and what's your opion on it. I mean I do think it's a good idea to be more greener, but to make you feel awkward about asking for a carrier bag was wondering what will be next.

I went to Asda's the other day and asked for some carrier bags and the till assistant said to me "What are you going to do when we no longer give out free carrier bags"?

I must admit I have bought some stronger bags from various super markets to re-use over and over (which is great for the environment) , but I forget to take them with me.

I'm quite happy to recycle my carrier bags and admit I hate all the crappy free ones you get that tear easily and don't decompose properly.

But I don't think you should have been made to feel guilty about asking for another free bag - that's awful.

In Holland we mostly pay a few cents for a plastic carrier bag at the supermarkets. Or you pay a little more for a good one or a special cooler bag for frozen products.

At some shops you can get unlimited plastic bags but I don't mind paying for some when I forgot my own. However the quality of free ones mostly are bad here.

At the store I buy my DVD's and electronic products there are either free bags or for products in bigger carton boxes they have very tight strips around them and you can ask for a carry handle to put on it. I once even got like a cart or two when I bought my stereo equipment so you could put them on there and wheel your way to the car.

So I do not mind paying a few cents or pennies for a plastic bag but I must admit that when you buy large products we need to pay a lot extra nowadays to let them bring it by truck. However they also take the old product back if you want to get rid of it.
This Fox might out trick you but that does not mean I don't care

I do have the stronger carrier bags here, vary in price from £1 to £2 in most shops, but like chewy I tend to forget to bring them. But when you don't have a car and have to struggle with the carrying the shopping home, you can't be expected to put a load of shopping into just one or two carrier bags when like chewy said they break so easily.
