    Default Lost contact

What are your opinions on tracing family members that you have simply lost touch with, or that you know you have, but have never had no contact with.

For example, Chewy has gotten into geneology and whilst searching, found someone looking for me. They named my mum, where they thought I worked and roughly how old I was.

I was adopted by my stepfather, many years ago and was brought up as an only child.

My real father though married and had children which I have never known anything about. Seeing this person looking for me, has brought up a bag of mixed emotions.

    • How will I feel about meeting them
    • Will we get on
    • Will we have anything to talk about
    • Will we look alike
    • How many half brothers and sisters do I have etc etc.

Do you have any experiances like this, what are you feelings on the matter?

    UPDATE:

This will probably not mean much to you, but to me, it means the world.
Here are the First pictures i have ever seen of my Real Father, and Sister.

Lost contact-genes.jpgWell, I am so glad I signed up to GenesReunited (again can't get access to the old tree I did on their years ago lol) so I started again and it was a real pleasure to start my family tree.

So far, on paper work I have traced one part of my tree back to 1752.

My immediate family is more difficult as unbeknown to me surnames were changed and there was an adoption in the family - but now I have been given the correct information I am locating family I never new I had - not that I want to contact anyone, I just want to see how far back I can go and connect with other peoples Family Trees.

By signing up I actually subscribed as a Gold Member and have access to Census's and Birth, Death and Marriage Records - for 6 months at a very reseaonable £36.95.

I will give you more details on Geneology in the THG RAG MAG - look out for that.
Even though Magz and I aren't married yet (date to be set soon) I added him to my tree and started trying to locate his real father and came across a message from a friend's friend who is keen to contact Magz - woow so we've sent messages and emails so hopefully there will be a family reunion soon - watch this space :)

Well dont really know where to start with this post - but here goes!

My mum has 4 children with 3 different fathers so you can imagine its quite confusing explaining how everyone is related. I mean i dont have any brothers and sisters that my real mum and dad had as they only had me, and there is a reason behind that, well as you all know i am disabled and basically he didnt want to know. My older sister, Mandy aged 39, has a different dad and his family have always talked to me like one of them, always asked how i am and how my kids are. Mum went on to have 2 more children later on in life with my step dad whom she met when i was 12. He has always been there for me and my children have always called him Grandad. My kids know he isnt my real dad and that my real dad - if you can call him that - doesnt want to know me. When Ashley was about 2 yrs old my mum gave me a name and number of someone he used to work with. well i tried to contact him through this person and he didnt want to know me and or children.

I guess what i'm saying is, its not always who made you that matters is who loves and cares for you. My dad is just one person but i have enough people within my life to love me and be there for me, more then he ever could! My mum has made me the person i am today, she was always there for me through thick and thin, and is today! She loved me enough for the both of them.

well this is like loz he was brought up by his mum and dad and 4 other siblings , at the age of eleven they told him that he did have another dad but its never affected the family , its a long story really and not for me to say everything but i helped loz trace this man , he denied everything and even knowing his mum , we had letters and photos from the army and loz is his double , what was nice is loz has been accepted by his auntie ,uncles from that side and they know the truth and remember lozs mum , his auntie invited us down and knobby knew we were coming down and never made an effort (thats his nicknamefrom the army),lozs auntie is disgusted at her brother but loz doesnt want any troubles just wondered and has left it at that , luckily he had a great family and we love his dad to bits and ryan loves his grandad so thats it really ...

Awww Id say go for it, lifes to short not to know about relations,
As a few of you know Ive got 3 half sisters from my dads first marriage and between us there are 10 grandkids for my dad, my dad's ex wife remarried and had kids with her new partner making my half sisters family pretty big!!! ( I have some mad idea of a huge family reunion - i got us all together when i was 18, but theres now great-grnd kids on the way as well)
But in the days of divorce and remarriages then Id say go for it its always nice to see where your family roots come from, my mum has a hand made copy that was given to her by her aunt just before she passed away around 90 years of age, I know my dads got an Aunt that lives in Canada and that ive got relatives in Australia

Its something thats alway been of interest to me, and you never know we could all be related somewhere along the line hehehe!!!

But best of luck to you all in finding lost relatives xxx

no disrespect to any 1 of you who are looking ,and i hope you find whoever your are looking for but if they wanted to stay in contact they wouldve done , now years on down the line you want to find them. what if and when you get in touch they dont want to know, say its been 20 years since they last seen you , what are you going to accomplish , you think you gonna shake hands ,hug and everythings gonna be rosey, i doubt it very much all this sort of stuff drags the past up that somebody doesnt want dragging.i know there is people out there who do want finding but in my opinion let sleeping dogs lie .i wouldnt want to be waking up to find some1 i hadnt known exsisted exsisted .
