Thats really made me glad that, although I can drive n have acsees to a vehicle, that im covered as a named driver on the policy, as theres no way I would be able to aford to insure my own vehicle
" Im the one your mum warned you about........ theres 20p call her, n tell her u wont be home for tea!"
hmmm im glad i dont drive
I have been driving for "Cough" okay 20 years and have never claimed on my insurance - no points etc and I have a 1.1 ford fiesta and it costs me £90 per year third party.
I don't rate car insurances at all, as my car is ony worth about £100 (if I could find a buyer for it lolol) and why should I pay more insurance than what the car is worth.
The excess is £100 so if someone had hit my car I pay the first £100 - whats the point - my insurance is less than that.
If my car was written off I'd prob only get about £50 from the insurance company so I am well out of pocket - Car insurance is a scam - only people that benefit are the insurance companies.
You are okay if you have a car worth £10,000 and pay £400 insurance then yes it is worth it - but if you can afford a £10,000 car you wouldn't be moaning about paying the insurance
Rich get richer - screw the poor over
I've been trying to think how to reply to this one ever since it was posted. I can't justify the increases (and don't shoot me I only work for a broker I don't set the premiums lol) but the best way I can explain it is that you are not actually insuring your car these days you are insuring against personal injury claims. If you bump into the back of someone no matter how minor the speed you were doing, the likely hood is that the person or persons in that vehicle will claim personal injury. And when the smallest of claims for minor whiplash can pay out £500 then you have got solicitors fees etc on top of that your £90 doesnt look so bad Chewy :D
Insurance is a rip off but blame America for showing us how rich you can get by claiming.
And did you know that 5% of your premium goes to the government as another tax???
Hope this kind of explains things too you.
well theres a suprise, another tax for the government, more money for them to waste then (and lets face it,for all the money they take off us in taxes we never see any good done with it do we?)
Firefox is partially right. Mostly the car insurance (at least in Holland) is not for your car but for the mess you create to others. So if you hit someone in any way you need to be insured to pay their damage.
However it also depends how your state of mind is at that time. If you are drunk they will not pay if there is enough proof. Those are mostly the small prints off course.
In holland the system works like this as far as I know (I do not have a driver's license yet but I do know some part of it)
First of all the younger you are the higher the risk so they pay more. As most young people like to act wild and tough. Then you earn no claim every year you are without a claim so you get discount on that. This off course has a maximum of a certain percentage. When you do claim something the no claim discount will be less depending on how bad the claim is.
Also we have two kinds of insurances. WA-Insurance as we call it is for causing damage to others. Then you have an insurance that covers yourself and others which is more expensive and mostly for the people having an expensive and/or new car.
We must have at least the WA-insurance (W = wettelijk = by law, A = aansprakelijkheid which means something like liability)
This Fox might out trick you but that does not mean I don't care
To me it seems that the government is really trying to hit us poorer people instead of the richer ones, in my opinion why cripple us when they could and would get the people with more money to pay out it is really annoying.
As a car owner/ driver myself it is getting really stupid that every year we get hit by the budget for our car tax as well as the car insurance increasing with it then you add the fuel on top it isn't fair especially when you need your car to get around especially where we live :(
it would make a change for them to pick on the people that refuse to pay for there tax n insurance
well thats what i say lol
not necessarily true Chewy, my car cost just under that and yes I could afford the car and £1600 insurance...for this year but that doesn't mean I'll be able to afford the same next year as that money came out of savings/inheritance not earnings.
but yeah is expensive owning and driving a car :(
