Unhappy keeping up with the times

when my children were first born i started collecting video's of disney children films so that when they were tots they would have a good selection to chose from, but when my eldest was about 4 years old they brought out dvd's and video's were becoming obserleat. so i then had to go out and start replacing all the video's for dvd's, i now have a collection of over 400 dvd's. but now they have brought out this high defernishtion films and i wonder if that is going to replace dvd's, it is really anoing who else is getting cheesed off with it?

I know what you mean, I collected all the disney videos for my kids - now it's DVD's, we've kept a Video player as I'm not prepared to get rid of the videos.

It is a pain but and can be expensive buying all new dvd's but it's like the records, I bet there are loads of people who still keep their record and play them - reminising :)

Time moves quicker now I think

It's the same with cds, how many people now use ipods or mp3/mp4 players - no need for portable cd players anymore. It is good that technology moves on but what a waste!

it is a waste yes, i agree, i am too a part of the upgarde generations, i have mp3 players but i still have a few cassettes stashed away. wont get rid of them. sentimental value. but yea, high deff is not the way forward, the companies are stopping producing high deff dvds this easter so dont buy any, because they all see blue ray the future, you can fit more on a blueray disk, up to 50gig!!! thats huge!!! the quality will still be high deff but the normal HD dvds wont exist........ blue ray is the future, but hey, i wonder what will replace the ipod/mp3 player!!

It is a waste, and it's us consumers that always have to pay for it. I suppose it's the price we have to pay for progress, but it's everywhere you turn.
PC's are always getting faster, bigger storage, better graphics, better sound, better this and better that... If you buy a new PC it seems like it's out of date within months !
    Games Consoles - PS1, PS2, PS3 - how long before PS4, 5 and 6 ?
One I read about recently is 'Digital Radio' - which is only now becoming more widely available and supposed to be the best thing since FM. I read an article that said not to buy, as they predicted it to be overtaken within a few years by 'Internet Radio' - as the quality and speeds of internet connections improve further.
The only advice I can offer is - Pay up and Smile.

Red face Re: keeping up with the times

i think that for the people that can't afford to keep up with the times get left behind, like my mum she can't afford it so i help her out like for her birthday and christmas. its just a same these things should be affordable or they should market them better before they bring them out onto the market.

i know what everyone is saying as it is sooo hard to keep up with everything that is changing these days. i still use tapes, video recoreder as well as my dvd player but i waited for the prices to come down before i brought the newest things, i will admit i have still got my old stereo with record player that i was brought for christmas from my own parents lol along with all my old records lol.

the times might be changing but there's nothing saying that we need to change quickly with it :P

Times do change and blue ray is indeed the new format for DVD's, after a long fight it seems that blue ray is winning. However I do think the players will still be able to play the old format of DVD's. At least in the beginning.

I also have a big collection of DVD's and concerning the Disney ones I bought my DVD player just after I started to collect video's seeing the advantage of multiple languages and me being an uncle. I needed a new stereo and well a DVD player can also play cd's so the combo was easily made.

Talking about the record players...nowadays they seem to be coming back. You can still buy a few of them here and the nice thing now is that they are making record players with USB so you can plug them onto your pc. Might be something nice for the ones with lots of records :)
This Fox might out trick you but that does not mean I don't care
