Default Olympics - 1 year to go

So, as everyone seems to have been going on about today, it's 1 year until the opening ceremony for the 2012 Olympics. I personally don't see why such a big fuss is being made about it being 1 year to go, but that's just me. Is anyone here bothered about the Olympics? Is anyone going to any events? Is anyone going to be making a special effort to watch any part of the Olympics? Me, personally, I'm not bothered. It's never really interested me (I'm more interested in the winter Olympics), and I've never made an effort to watch any of the summer Olympics. What do other people think? I also think it's a bit silly really making a big deal out of 2m people in the UK trying to buy (or having bought) tickets and saying it shows the country is really interested, the country is really looking forward to them, etc, when really, 2m out of what, 60m? That's not exactly anything to get particularly excited about in my opinion. Yes I know not everyone can afford to go, and I know alot of people will get in for free as part of corporate deals etc, but......it just doesn't sound like much to me. To be honest, to me, the most important thing about the Olympics is it means the 2012/13 footy season starts a couple of weeks later than it normally would. Selfish? Maybe, but........thats the way I feel, I just haven't got any interest or excitement for the Olympics.

Yes, the Olympic Games have been turned into more a commercial project of certain people instead of it being what Olympic Games should stand for. I have lost my interest for the event and i will explain why. When China held Olympic Games and everyone was watching the opening ceremony with all the leaders smiling and acting happy, Georgia attacked South Ossetia and people were dying. I guess i am not mistaken to say that during this event all of the wars should stop and so on. Hypocrisy? Exactly! I mean no offense to the actual sportsmen and people dedicating their lives to honesty and a will, but the very event has lost it's meaning and i can only hope that your country can bring the spirit back. We can always hope, right?

Personally, I shall probably be glued to the TV for 2 weeks! I love the swimming, diving, rowing, gymnastics and athletics and I would far prefer to watch them in the comfort of my own home where the only thing missing is the atmosphere! I say "Bring the Games on!"

I will always support anyone from our country that has the will to compete against the rest of the world-This is what is wrong with our country - a lot of people want to will on patriotism and would if they could - its those that can but wont that are the problem = UK get off your arse and do something to change your life - it will soon pass by if you dont.

Well said, Jean Paul! I agree with the thoughts and the feelings expressed above and the most of all, - there is a need to do something for each person because it is all what we shall make out of it. The Olympic Games will be awesome if we all shall make it this way. I like all the sports possible and the fact that I am not able to do most of them myself make me sit and watch in awe and feel proud of all the people that dedicated the years of their lives to achieve something. We should not let anything or anyone spoil it for us and make our lives a better place. A lot of people organize Olympic Games and they want to make it as best as they can, they put their hearts and their dreams in every little detail that most of us might not even notice. For some young people it will be the first Olympic Games and it will be a great chance for many. It is a something that we still have left in our world and it is in our powers to make it the best way possible. Do I care or not? Of course, I do because we all live on a same planet and I feel proud for your country and it's people, proud of how you handle things and I wish I could do something to let the poor ones get an opportunity to see Olympics as well as the rich, to let all the benefits available for all and everyone.

It is a competition and it is a chance for every country to show that we are together, united by the same feeling of unity, honesty, brave hearts and the courage!
