    Default The Charts

So, I see Cher Lloyd is at number 1 in the midweek charts with her song 'Swagger Jagger', and having heard it, it saddens me that particularly since the introduction of things like Pop Idol, X Factor etc, anyone who's on them generally seems to do well (not everyone, but most), even if the song is rubbish, purely because they're famous because they were on 1 of those shows, and it shows just how poor in my opinion the public are when it comes to knowing the difference between good songs by anyone, and songs of varying goodness by people who've been on a talent show. Yes, sometimes they bring out a really good song which is deserving of the number 1, but other times (in this case, Cher Lloyd's debut single), it baffles me how such utter trash could even get in the top 100, as I'm certain that if she'd just come out of nowhere, nobody had heard of her, and they heard that song, that it'd flop pathetically badly. This isn't a "she was on a talent show so she must be rubbish" post, because there have been some very good songs by people/bands who've been on talent shows, but more a........"what does it say about the public when their buying habits can lead to dross like this getting to number 1" post. Here's the song for anyone who hasn't heard it.

Anyone got any opinions on either this song, or the charts in general and the public's buying habits? Just to emphasise, it's nothing to do with her being on a talent show, as some people that have been on them have sung some good songs.

Well ok, it wasn't about the charts per se, but generally anyone who's famous or whose song you hear regularly is likely to be in the charts. I don't like the shows, but that's besides the point for me. As I've said, some good songs have come from people who've been on talent shows, but songs like Cher Lloyd's song as posted above makes a mockery of things really, and for me makes the British public look more interested in celebs and famous people (ok, the country is like that, we all know that). If a song is good, fair enough, doesn't bother me who songs it or if they're from a tv show or not, I can appreciate a good song, but when dross like Cher Lloyd's song is in the charts and on course to be number 1, it's just pathetic. She may come out with some good songs in future which get to number 1, but for her debut single to get to number 1 is ridiculous, and speaks volumes about the British public and their.........I almost feel like saying ignorance to music, as quite frankly I think some people are incapable of distinguishing between good music by anyone, and rubbish music by someone famous. As I said, if Cher Lloyd hadn't been on the X Factor and people didn't know who she was, and she came out with that song, it'd flop big time.

So, as I thought, she's got to number 1. How has she managed to get to number 1 with such a terrible song? As I said, if she was just a nobody releasing her first single, it wouldn't stand a chance of doing even remotely half decent in the charts.
