Default Favourite book you have read

Since there are many users here there are bound to be a lot of people that like to read books.

To be honest I am not much of a reader myself when it comes to books and well if I do it is probably Dutch or maybe a translation (I did read some English books but mostly for English at school)

However maybe you can persuade me into reading some books.

Please tell me what your favourite books are and mostly what is the content about (short and sweet please ;) )

So far one book that made me think was Erich von Däniken's Chariots of Fire that was about the question if our God's would be visitors from outer space that gave us technology and helped some old cultures build their temples etc.

He used a lot of proof that was convincing like wall drawings with people wearing space helmets and the fact that most religions are practically the same.

For me, i do like a good horror / suspense novel

Most recent read for me, was Nobody True, by James Herbert

Favourite book you have read-jameherb.jpgI wasn’t there when I died. I was having one of those out-of-body dreams, the kind where you feel your spirit has left your body and it isn’t really a dream. You may have read about the phenomenon, you might even have experienced it yourself.

But somebody murdered me while I was away.
Mutilated me. Chopped me to pieces.

Left nothing for me to come back to.

Who did it? That’s what I asked myself.

The serial killer who was terrorizing the whole city? Or someone closer, someone known to me, someone who maybe had a grudge, a score to settle? But I had no enemies. At least, I didn’t think I had.

Excellent story writer and a good book

Well I must say that Wilbur Smith is one of my favourite authors and choosing one book is really hard - but one series of books he did - and they are all fantastic are based in Egypt....

Favourite book you have read-rivergod.jpgRiver God
River God follows the fate of the Egyptian Kingdom through the eyes of Taita, a multi-talented and highly skilled eunuch slave. Taita is owned by Lord Intef and primarily looks after his daughter, Lostris, but also plays a large role in the day to day running of Lord Intef's estate.

The Pharaoh of Egypt is without a male heir, and Taita inadvertently causes Pharaoh to take an interest in Lostris. Lostris meanwhile is in love with the soldier Tanus, who unbeknownst to her is hated by her father. Eventually Pharaoh marries Lostris and Intef reluctantly gives Taita to her as a wedding gift.

The novel contains a two-page afterword in which Smith claims the novel is based on a set of scrolls discovered in an Egyptian tomb which dates back to approximately 1780 BC. The scrolls were discovered by an Egyptologist, Dr. Duraid al-Simma, who passed the translations onto Smith to transcribe into a novel. This is a false claim, as Smith later reveals in the afterword of the sequel, The Seventh Scroll.

Favourite book you have read-seventhscroll.jpgThe Seventh Scroll

This book is set in the present day and follows the exploits of adventurer Nicholas Quenton-Harper and his love interest, the beautiful Dr. Royan Al Simma as they try and uncover the tomb of Tanus as described in River God.

    Favourite book you have read-warlock.jpgWarlock

Warlock is a sequel to River God that details the later life of Taita 60 years on from the death of Lostris.

Favourite book you have read-thequest.jpgThe Quest

Egypt is struck by a series of terrible plagues that cripple the kingdom, and then the ultimate disaster follows. The Nile fails. The waters that nourish and sustain the land dry up.

FANTASTIC BOOKS - AND THERE IS SO MUCH MORE TO THEM

Wilbur Smith is a fantastic writer and certainly researches all the information in such detail - you can close your eyes and imagine you are in the story.

I like Virginia Andrews - one of my favourite books of hers is Flowers in the Attic. It's about four children who have perfect lives in a happy, golden family. Their father dies and the children now live alone, hidden in an airless attic.

The books that follow on are really good too - she really grips me from the first page.

(Sorry don't know how to put picture in)

I love reading fantasy, horror and thriller books myself.

One of my favorite books is the Forgotten Realms - Starlight & Shadows trilogy: (Daughter of the Drow, Tangled Webs, Windwalker)

    ================================================== ===============

She is a dark elf princess running from the oppression and constraints of her position in the Underground Kingdom. Possessing great magical skill and elfin cunning, she must rely upon all her resources to avoid those that pursue her in the name of her father and the goddess that she has angered.

He is a bezerker sentenced to carry a rounded sword because he killed a fellow warrior during a bezerker rage. Sent on a quest to find the windwalker amulet, he must learn to harness his bezerker rage or die in his first battle.

Together, Liriel Baenre and Fyodor become a dynamic and invincible team. Their travels carry them into the most extreme dangers and they battle creatures and demons beyond the scope of imagination.

My favourites are historical novels. I love Catherine Cookson and Elvi Rhodes. I am also very keen on books written by my next door neighbour Sarah Challis. Most of them are set in our area. The one I love best is Blackthorn Winter. It's an excellent read.

(Sadly she doesn't pay me commission for plugging her books!!!! LOL!!!)

Me personally i read the harry potter series!

Even though its finished, i still find myself reading the books 4 or 5 times and still keep finding bits i missed the first time round!

The other half keeps trying to get me into books, but i always get about half way through and find myself putting it down and then forgetting to pick it back up again!
I came, you saw, so I left!
