Night Shifts

Anyone have any experience of working nights?

My new Job, means i will be working in a control room, doing 12 hour shifts from 7pm - 7am. This is 4 shifts on, and then 4 days off.

Im an insomniac at the best of times, but think the hours are going to kill me lol. Guess im worried about sleep patterns and trying to get into some form of routine.

Im liking the idea of 4 days off though, and also when taking holiday, booking 4 days of, gives a total of 12 days holiday, 4 rest days before, and 4 rest days after ).

I used to work all nights in supermarkets i had to travel all over the country so if it took four hours to get there an four hours back plus twelve hours work your talking twenty hours some times i was away for twenty four hours we had tobe out of the shop by the time it opened in the morning some times we done fifteen hours work that is a killer lol.the work i was doing was hard aswell cos a team of us would go into a super market after it had been refurbished an do what was called a builders clean so we scrubbed floors then had to coat them with like a varnish then buff them .The hardest part was scrubbing around the feet of the shelves because we had to do that by hand on our hands an knees i done that every other day for three years. NEVER AGAIN LOL

yep i worked nights doing care work on cover , my dad does 3 on 4 off then 4 on 3 off etc long days !

Well tonight, I start my first night nightshift. I didn't sleep well last night so no idea how I'm going to cope with 12 hours later lol. I will let you know :)

good luck :) once ur used to it im sure ull be fine depends if u get ya sleep pattern right and u dont much of that do ya lol

Well, night shift number one done and dusted, and what a ruddy long shift it was.

Felt really eerie in an open plan office in the early hours of the morning, with just me, and one other.

I didn't get much sleep the night before, and despite my best efforts, wasn't able to get any sleep when I got home today.

Tonight is going to be a killer, I can feel it in my water lol
