I have no prob with except they need to be limited to drive a manual only as most accidents involving elderly is due to them driving an automatic.
This is a discussion on Elderly Drivers within the Grafiti Board forums, part of the General Rants category; do you think a person over the age of maybe 70 should still be driving...

That is really good question maggie well i dont think they should be because there eye sight and reactions can not be the same as a younger person but there again there is some pentioners that are fitter than us younger ones so its hard to say
no way should they b allowed 2 drive at that age we have nearly been wiped out so many times bu oldies an their dodgy driving skills no offence 2 any of u oldie drivers here btw lol
does that include you as well silly lol
I think they should be allowed but not until a very stiff medical is passed and a full driving test including the theory !!
cheeky git mr an thankfully for all i don't drive lmao![]()
I think its more of a question based on ability rather than age.
I know some young people that should not be allowed to drive....
Health issues, eye sight, reactions, concentration and common sense all play major parts, and I personally think better screening should happen. These issues can affect us all at anytime.
Having said that, some elderly people are a nightmare on the roads lol

I tend to agree with Magic. Actually I recently attended a course for over-50's. It was a 2 hour afternoon session of theory and then you could request a 2 hour drive with a qualified instructor. I actually picked up quite a lot of useful information and was amazed at how many bad habits I had got into. It's amazing how things change over the years. I think it would be quite a good idea to attend a course like that say every 10 years whatever age you are just to keep yourself up to date. Living in a rural area as I do I certainly hope that I will still be driving when I'm 70 and beyond - that's if I'm still here!
that's a good idea bib pity more peeps would'nt do the same tho some oldies just think they own the roads lmao they think they can drive forever and that in most cases is not the case some might still b safe drivers but most r defo NOT!!!!!
