The juicy strawberry has beaten the fizzy cola bottle to be named Britain's favourite sweet, according to a survey.

The cola bottle, which has held the top spot for years, was beaten by the berry outsider in a poll of more than 2,000 people by woolworths.co.uk.

Traditional favourite the Liquorice Allsort attracted just 7% of the vote.

Woolworths brand director Matthew Hardcastle said: "Woolies is home to the original pic n' mix and our chart is a way of documenting the nation's likes and dislikes.

"Taste in sweets change as much as any other trend. We had previously seen a movement to nostalgic sweets but the juicy strawberry is definitely the sweet of the moment and is a very contemporary choice."

The most popular sweets according to the survey are:

1. Juicy strawberry (21.3%); 2. Fizzy cola bottle (15%); 3. Chocolate egg (14.5%); 4. White chocolate snowie (13.3%); 5. Jelly bean (10.9%); 6. Fried egg (9.7%); 7. Jelly baby (7.9%); 8. Liquorice Allsort (7.3%).

I've never heard of Juicy strawberry so dunno how it made top spot lol ...... I can't eat milk or dark chocolate as it gives me migraines but can eat white chocolate but there isn't much to choose from....but I would have to say my favourite sweet at the moment is Milkybar white moments - nearest I get to Smarties lol.

Always been a choice between Snickers and Bounty for me. In terms of pick 'n' mix sweets, the none fizzy cola bottle (ie not covered in sugar or whatever it is), or the fried egg.

my favourite sweets are rubarb an custards and pineapple cubes yummy refreshing but dont see them very often my favoueite choclate is same as cyberbabes galaxy

Shrimps or Ears as I call them lol and Clarnico Mints yummmyyyyyyyyyyy - my dad loved them and ate them when I was a kid - now they are my favourites :)

I just used to love floral gums - yum yum. You can occasionally get them now but they are nowhere as good as they used to be. As for chocolate - have you ever had a White Toblerone - to die for...... usually get these at Christmas and they do them in extra large chunks (each must be about a bar of chocolate in itself). mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm loverly
