    Default schools on strike

What schools are on strike tomorrow (Thursday 24th)

because of most of the staff being with the National Union of Teachers from our school both my childrens schools are off tomorrow, as well as dozers daughter in rhyl.

how wide spread is this strike and what are everyones opinion about it, i personally know how much work the teacher's do on a day to day basis with working in the class room everyday.

i'm not sure what the pay is but i think that some teacher's deserve a increase in pay especially if they are having to deal with challenging children everyday.

    so what's your views ...........

55 schools fully closed in huddersfield as well as alot that are partially closed-don't know what teachers are paid but given what kids (esp teens) seem to be like nowadays, they should get paid more, especially if its alot less than alot of other people etc,i don't understand all this 'inflation' stuff, but apparently its way below that, but its a bit of a catch 22,as you recognise the teachers work flippin hard in skool (and out of it) so deserve a fair salary, but equally the strike means alot of people having to worry about getting childcare sorted etc for just the 1 day, which isnt ideal

I don't have the ins and outs about the strike but I wanted to explain something to Stevvy hehehe...

Inflation is a rise in the general level of prices over time. It may also refer to a rise in the prices of a specific set of goods or services. In either case, it is measured as the percentage rate of change of a price index.

So to describe it a bit more simplistic. Every year certain goods and or services are becoming more or less expensive. Some goods and services are considered normal for people to have like a house (so rent or mortgage), insurances, food and drinks etc. The average of the change of prices will make a percentage of increase or decrease.

Then we have the change in salary. It is normal for people to get a salary raise every year. However if the percentage of the raise is below the average change of prices then people will have less to spend. In Holland this is called KOOPKRACHT. Translated literally as the power to buy.

In Holland this has been normal for the last few years so most people have less to spend for stuff that is judged as secondary goods or services so things not needed for normal life but to make life more fun like a holiday, DVD's, games, concert tickets etc.
This Fox might out trick you but that does not mean I don't care

Well my daughter is off school, she goes to an all girls school in bournemouth with 1000 pupils there, but the younger part of her school is attending, just yrs 9, 10 and 11 are off. Boys school is open - thank god - and to be honest there are good teachers and bad teachers, met a few in my time whilst trying to sort my boys out over the last few years. Some have the experience or knowledge for special needs children/challenging children and some dont have the time of day for them.

I fully support the teachers strike ... those poor ppl do a very challenging job and quite often its with very little thanks . So to be offered a pay rise at less than inflation rates must be a real kick in the teeth and i would think its quite soul destroying for them. In my eyes if a payrise is less than inflation, then its in real terms a pay cut. (gets off soapbox)

i applaud everything the teachers do ,but you dont forget the holidays they have, paid.also jacko mentions the rate of inflation . the thing is its not just for teachers this rate of inflation ,it effects everybody ,gas ,electric, water, food, perscriptions ,everything has risen with inflation except peoples paypacket ,they need ajusting accordingly ,in my opinion
