The Arcade, the Present and the Future The arcade has always been a hit with the members here, and I imagine, will continue to remain that way.
In its beginning, the arcade started life with just a few games, and overtime, built up to where it currently is with just under 3,400 games installed.
The arcade itself unfortnately, isnt maintained anymore by its creator, and as such, has been left to the forum owners themselves to fix when problems do occur. This generally happens when a new version of the software this site uses gets a major overhaul. Certain elements of addons that are used here, simply stop working, and need code adjustments to be made to keep it compatible.
Now because of this, I feel its time to move onwards with a new system. A system that is actively maintained, updated, and a system that introduces some new features.
In my opinion, this new arcade system is a lot "Cleaner" to look at, is simple to use and easy to manage.
The downside to it,is simply it will take time for me to convert the games we currently have to work with it.
I am now back at work which makes my time more limited, but, I do intend working on implemeting the new system sooner, rather than later.
I have given KneeHighNinja a preview of how the arcade looks, so I am sure she may add some input to this thread.
In summary then:
- The current Arcade system is going
- New version will have some extra features
- User ability to specify viewing resolution while playing games.
- Integrated arcade statistics on your user's profile pages!
- AJAX based instant ratings, for simple to use game ratings.
- AJAX based instant game searching.
- Tabbed, customizable categories.
- Challenge system for one-on-one contests.
- Streamlined viewing modes for users with lower resolutions.
- AJAX based quick stats, for viewing statistics by passing the cursor over a username.
- Reverse and decimal based scoring.
- Postbit based awards.
- Personalized recommendations for other games users might like, based on what they’re playing.
- Quick stats, letting a user know how many other scores are above and below theirs.
- Score ranking.
- Admin customizable “score feedback”, displays a message based on how well as user has done.
- A slick, professional layout.
As you can, its something to look forward to.

Re: The Arcade, the Present and the Future I don't envy you this task Magic but I am sure all the arcade users will totally appreciate the time and effort that will be required by yourself to set it all up. I do sincerely hope that one or two of them will note their appreciation to you in this Forum. It certainly sounds as if it will be worth waiting for. so, it will be a big shock to them when i start the migration to the new system lol.
I bet once i start work, a flood of complaints will come through asking where have all the games gone
Anyways,
I have a bit of time off coming up, so am hoping to start in the next day or two.
To help me out a little, and aimed at the arcade players: What games would you like to see added back as a priority ?

Re: The Arcade, the Present and the Future Well as magic said i have seen the new arcade an i can tell you it looks great and im really looking forward to it but we have got tobe patient theres a lot of work for magic to get it sorted.Im looking forward to the one to one contests because we all like getting high scores some more than most lol but i think it will be good fun as for games tobe added as priority a lot like mahjong and puzzles.
Magic dont go over doing things as you have just recovered from surgery but thank you sooo much for all your hard work in keeping this site up an running xxx

Good news is, Ive managed to convert ALL games to the new format, and have even managed to retain your current game rankings.
The bad news: I was unable to keep your favourites intact, so you will need to build up your list of favourite games again.
The arcade should be self explanatory to use, but fire away with any questions you may have :)
Oh, one other thing. I'm not really happy about the way the game categories appear, so will in due course be streamling them down somewhat.
As it currently is, in my mind it is too "cluttered".
