Fear is a limiting emotion. When you examine your fears and act despite them, you expand your life and experience more personal growth.
"The only thing I am afraid of is fear," said the Duke of Wellington.
Fear is the ultimate limiting emotion. It overthrows reason. It paralyses action.
In an emergency, fear may help us to save ourselves or someone else, but for the most part, it ruins all initiative, growth, and spontaneous right action.
The number one fear most people have is of public speaking. Yet, this fear has no survival value at all.
Fear is simply the nauseating sensation in your abdominal area that over-rides any good sense you might have about anything.
If allowed to persist, the surge of adrenaline causes your body to break down at a cellular level. We call it stress, but that is only the name we give for a body that is taut with fear.
Yet when you examine the cause of any fear, it is usually nothing more than a highly-charged negative opinion.
The result of this fear is that we stay trapped in limiting realities-poor paying jobs that barely allow us to survive, relationships that whittle our self-esteem to mush, educational opportunities that could expand our perception and massively improve our lives.
Someone, for example, who is afraid to speak up will find when he or she does that nobody is shocked, appalled, or indignant. In fact, things seem to improve because of it.
Fear left unchecked can lead to all kinds of neurosis and inhibitions. An extreme fear, which has no basis in reality, leads to paranoia.
The whole thing about fear is that unless your life is being threatened, it makes things far worse than they need to be.
Fear can be partially or completely debilitating. It is the misuse of the imagination to create horrible scenarios.
Understanding that fear is a

About
Reality
is one step toward eliminating it.
Do the thing that you fear, either all at once or through baby steps, and discovering that the monster in the closet was only your own imagination.

oooooooo this sooooooooo sounds like me - I have to go to Head Office next month it will be my first time - luckily I'm not going on my own but they guy I'm going with will be in another area whilst I'm doing my training. I am already getting nervous thinking about it and my new boss thrives on taking me out of my comfort zone so I'm trying hard to control it and not show anyone I am bothered.
Great post Chewy xxxx
Aww good luck for your training firefox :) remember - fear is a controlled emotion - you can do anything - if you choose to put your mind to it.
Enlarge that comfort zone of yours :)
I'm trying hun :) ........ I don't have much choice - these guys are going to make me expand my comfort zone. Watch this space lmao.
Think Auntie Chewy is going to be busy end of next month lmao. xxx
Freudian Fox will be taking a vacation then lol
This Fox might out trick you but that does not mean I don't care
I know its been a while since someone replied to this, but - I feel 'fear' often, and yes it is totally debilitating and horrible.
I know what causes the fear to start - pain. I have a few ongoing health problems which all cause pain but 'certain' pain I get really starts me panicking as to the reason, especially when I pass 'blood' (won't get too graphic) yet when I see the doctor she says oh that's okay, with your condition that can happen - don't worry.
Don't worry I'm in a total state in case its the big 'C'.
So I have good reason to feel fear and no amount of convincing me otherwise will stop it. And why? Because the pain keeps coming back. :(
oh dear pennyblack think u need a second opinion from another doc might put ur mind at ease :o)))
I've just been told I've fibromyalgia and diverticular disease.
I've also got osteo-arthritis, scoliosis and narrowing of 2 discs so I get pain anyway from all these problems. Yes I've had tests, scans and keep being told there's nothing wrong. Oh ha ha.
I've been referred to a Pain Management PROGRAMME - now this differs from a Pain Management CLINC. In a CLINIC you get meds, physio, hydrotherapy, massage, all medical and hands on stuff - BUT the PROGRAMME is all about 'brain washing' you with cognative therapy, positive thinking, visualisation and how to 'Manage your Pain' - in other words put up with it. What a joke. Instead of tackling the 'cause' its all just 'symptomatic' treatment these days. Even then with me, the physio won't treat me as I was told there'd be no 'long term benefit'. Well what about the 'short term' then??? I can't take so much medication as I suffer badly with side effects so the GP says there's not much else she can do.
When I lived in Surrey where I've lived virtually all my life, in 2003 I was told regarding my hips that give it another 2-3 years and I'd be put on the list for a hip replacement. Mmm - well I'm now in Sussex and according to the medical folk here I'm just fine - there's nothing wrong with me. My god what a miracle, I must be the only person who's osteo-arthritis has vanished into thin air.
No - its NHS cutbacks. The public are being fobbed off because funding has been withdrawn in so many areas, people are not getting proper ongoing care i.e. physio for one.
Actually I'd better stop because I could rant for pages giving examples of how the public just doesn't get proper treatment anymore and I'll just get more depressed and angry.
You bet I'm scared, feel terror and have no trust or faith in the NHS or what I'm told anymore. I'm 60 - past it - over the hill - not worth spending the money on. Now if I were a child or pregnant woman I'd get all the help under the sun.
yes you would pennyblack and i can see where your coming from as will alot of the regular patrons of this website ,,,,oaps' are treated shockingly ...
Cheeky aren't I
